Emboldening presence -- not receiving benefit

When I summon my briathorn I receive no benefit to my character's stats at all (i.e. no increased dmg or increased physical resistance), despite having maxed out emboldening presence. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

I've never had a core ability not work like this in the regular game, so hopefully this is an isolated incident and it won't become a common theme with the expansion.
