Transferring a PM discussion to public as it might interest more than one person.
Depending on what records overlap and what kind of changes are in them, you will choose to overwrite or not.
If you have your own personal mod and you want to merge it with an open source mod such as Grimmest, here is a tip.
Grimmest will be updated from time to time. You will also want to continue working on your mod. You want to keep the source, and therefore, the mods separate.
- Make the mod you want to make, call it, for the purpose of example, GravaasaDamagetype, or GaaD.
- Keep a current version of the Grimmest mod as well, independent.
- When you want to build the merge, you copy GaaD and paste it in the working folder via windows copy/paste.
- Rename "Copy of GaaD " to GaaDGrimmest.
- Then windows copy/paste the Grimmest source on top of GaaDGrimmest. (See sub-tip below)
- Build GaadGrimmest.
Depending on what records overlap and what kind of changes are in them, you will choose to overwrite or not.
- If is it <5 dbrs, you might just manually select the appropriate decision for each.
- When there are a lot, you can make yet another mod, call it GaaDMaster and put the dbrs that overlap in there and make manual adjustments and then copy/paste that with overwrite at the end. Keeping those records separate, especially if nobody changes them often, can save you a lot of headache over time as updates happen (example records for a Master-mod: male/female,animations, skill ui).
